It’s time to introduce Cat-atonic Kitty #3, Sirius Black Harless. He was found while my step-kid was on a trip, then brought over to my house. There’s more to the story, obviously, but not a lot I can share in an open, online forum.
This sweet baby got immediately tormented with a bath where he turned into a desperate Muppet, all skinny legs with a big round belly and big round eyes. Thankfully, he’s forgiven me for that indignity, but we still call him Muppet from time to time. Then he got a vet visit just as soon as I could get him there because, as I had suspected, that round little belly was full of worms. We got him healthy again with several deworming treatments, but I had to keep him isolated from our other two boys the whole time, which turned out to be the most difficult part of the whole procedure. As the only one in the household who works from home one hundred percent of the time, I became responsible for letting each set of cats out in shifts.
That’s right, they had shifts. The two brothers got to roam the house for four hours, then were wrangled into my bedroom to allow Sirius his time to stretch his little Muppet legs. While they were in there, they would bang on the door to be let out. While Sirius was shut into my kid’s room, he would whine and yowl. I almost lost my mind after about three weeks of this. Mind you, I also work as a full-time editor, so I was trying to concentrate with all this going on.
Thankfully after that time, Sirius was pronounced vaccinated and ready to mingle. The three boys had already been batting at each other under the door, so the introduction went about as smoothly as could be hoped for. Little Mac had a few moments of doubt and a few hisses, but soon all three of them were rolling around in a ball of cuteness and chaos.
He is now the best behaved of the three boys and loves pets, dinnertime, and picking fights with his brothers that he can’t win, because he’s just a little guy. I hadn’t intended to get three cats, but sometimes you just find yourself in a situation where you’re needed, and this little guy needed us.
